Political Asylum is one of the primary and most comprehensive of the humanitarian standards. In order to apply for political asylum the petitioner must suffer persecution or a fear of persecution based upon his or her:

  1. Race;
  2. Religion;
  3. Political Opinion;
  4. National Origin;
  5. Membership in a Particular Social Group.

Generally, it is required to show past persecution as an indicator of future persecution. However, Political Asylum is an extremely high evidentiary standard and is extremely difficult to apply for without consulting an attorney.
